June 15 is National "Show them all what you think" Day!
It has been calculated by a scientific polling of the Mindsay community that a whopping 87.6% of Mindsay users are, in some manner, not fully pleased with the American Apparel banner ads which appear atop the Mindsay administration and comment pages. Some people are reacting in different ways -- whether through their own blog entries, through petitions on the web, through verbal expression of this issue with one another, and through internalizing and doing nothing.
The solution is that we all have to do something. And I think I know what that is.
You see, it has been calculated that if everyone in the United States took a stand and didn't purchase from a specific retailer for an entire day and all at the same time, the retailer would choke on its stockpiles.
At the same time, it would make an impact on the entire retail industry with a shift in revenue of over 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS which affects the bottom line of companies everywhere.
Therefore -- we need to put our sentiments into ACTION! June 15, 2007 is officially "Show them all what you think" Day! One June 15, 2007 -- we should all REFRAIN FROM BUYING ANY ITEMS FROM AMERICAN APPAREL. Anything at all. Nary a swimsuit, a flip-flop or a wallet. For the entire day, even gift certificates and pewter ankle jewelry are off-limits. If you have a hankering for any of these items, feel free to purchase them on June 14th or June 16th. But not on the 15th! That's the only way we can convey this message.
THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO AS
MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD
OUT.
Waiting on this presidential administration to step in and sign a bill into law about the appropriateness of banner ads on websites is not going to happen. What happened to the controls on content promised by Al Gore when he invented the internet over a decade ago?
REMEMBER ONE THING: Not only are these ads here to stay if we don't act as one united front, but soon we'll be seeing American Apparel ads in other places: Magazines. Public busses. Billboards. Churches, synagogues and mosques. Cemeteries. Even MySpace. And who do you think pays in the end? WE DO!
(I mean, not with our dollars, but with our eyes. Seeing these ads. You know?)
SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND JUNE 15TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED
STATES SAY "THIS IS WHAT WE THINK!"
